Hello! How are you? It’s been a while and I’m sorry for not updating this thing more often. September was festival season and turned out to be the busiest month at my company. It was a real doozy. Stressful, even. But I’ve been managing and I’m looking forward to recalibrating and optimizing the workflow for future rushes. Some health issues popped up that I’m still trying to address and so I’ve been trying to relax and take care of myself when I’m not working and have been staying off social media for the most part.
Later this week I’m going to Los Angeles for a little vacation and to do a reading at Viva Padilla’s amazing bookstore Re/Arte Centro Literario. It will be really nice to see and read with Razor and Viva, and I’m looking forward to meeting Cecilia and Adrian. If you’re in the Los Angeles area please come by on Friday October 1 and hang out with us!
I was thinking of this reading as being a sort of book release party for my book that came out during the beginning of quarantine, a place a feeling something he said to you. It’s an important book to me, I think it should be read and I don’t think I promoted it properly. I’d love to send you a copy if you don’t already have one. Just let me know!
Every weekend this month I’ve been working. It will definitely be a change of pace to take some time off and be somewhere different. I haven’t left the Bay Area since like March 2019! If you have any suggestions on things I should do or see while I’m visiting please let me know. The only things I have planned are this reading, stopping by The Getty, and eating at Canter’s Deli. I love that place. Every time I went to LA to film with Pirooz Kalayeh for Ctrl Alt Del I made a point of having a meal there.
On Saturday, October 9 it’s the annual Libra Party, the celebration that Cassandra Dallett and I have been putting together for the past five (six?) years. Last year we had to do it online, but this year we will be meeting once again at Cassandra’s Badass Studios for poetry and other fun around a campfire in the backyard. We always have a blast. If you know, you know. And if you don’t know, hit me up and I’ll send you the details (or RSVP here).
I’m gonna squeeze out a new Be About It zine before the year ends, and for Halloween specifically. Send me your Halloween spirit! Can you believe we've been doing this for ten years? Halloween is my favorite holiday and what better way to celebrate it than with sharing poetry and short stories? Email your pieces to zinebeaboutit@gmail.com and send me a brief bio of your name, location, and favorite scary movie! I want to get this zine out in time to coincide with the release of Natasha Dennerstein’s new Be About It Press book, Broken: A Life of Aileen Wuornos in 33 Poems (which you can preorder here!).
That’s it for now. Hope you’ve had a good month. I miss seeing people and talking to people. I really have had no time but I’m glad to be giving myself a break soon and I’d really like to see you!
