A March of Marys, day eleven
He brags about studying under Derrida and dating Kathy Acker, but he is most known for being a compulsive liar.
Today is day 11 of A March of Marys. I hope you’re enjoying these daily inbox gifts. Check out the previous posts in this serialization here.
This post is dedicated to my ex, who I used to be terrified of. After having a story published recounting his abuse of me (with names changed), he had a lawyer send me a cease and desist letter and threatened to sue me for inflicting emotional damage on him. His lawyer also mentioned that he wouldn’t sue if I agreed to discuss the matter in person. Thankfully I am also friends with a few lawyers, and one of them was kind enough to write a brilliant letter in response noting that “truth is an ultimate defense to libel” and that I had every right to share the truth in whatever format I saw fit.
I’m currently thinking about that story, which ended up in American Mary, and plan on making some changes to it to give a fuller scope of the situation because I’m no longer afraid of him. Look for that next week.
One other housekeeping thing: I made some changes to day 2’s entry because I realized I captured the text from an earlier version of the novel. There were a few passages missing. You can read it now here.
Thank you again for checking out talk about it. If you enjoy my work, the best way to support me is to share my posts on your socials or directly with a friend. He gives his phone number out freely. Everything in his house belongs to someone who once knew him but can't be bothered enough to see him again to retrieve it. He is like a weird hermit crab who lives inside whoever he is currently dating. He asks people he is meeting for the first time invasive questions about their sexual histories and mental illnesses. He enjoys the nonconsensual power exchange. He brags about studying under Derrida and dating Kathy Acker, but he is most known for being a compulsive liar. He doesn’t call himself anything, but he knows he’s always right.
