2025 is already off to a good start. One of my favorite things is having an idea, saying it out loud and then publishing it in a public forum, then bringing it to life. I guess this is literally what manifesting is.
As I mentioned in my last post, I read a post by
about people complaining that “big five” publishers not pushing enough literary fiction onto the market and how that was only a result of the public simply not buying enough literary fiction, as big four publishers are only going to publish what sells. The solution: if you want to see more big publishers take a chance on literary fiction, then buy literary fiction and read it!I commented “maybe it’s time for me to finally start that literary fiction book club I’ve been thinking about,” and that was that. I had put that idea out into the universe, and now I had to make it happen. Because I love doing things, but I also like to keep things as casual and stress-free as possible, I’ve decided to make the Talk About It Literary Fiction Book Club: a group chat via Substack where we can carry on an easygoing conversation about whatever book we’re reading as a group that month, with no pressure from anyone to participate. Lurkers are welcome! Sometimes it’s just nice to get a book recommendation and feel more inspired to read it because you know you’ll have other people to talk about it with.
If you’d like to join in, we’ll be reading ALL FOURS by Miranda July for the month of January, and using this thread to talk about it. Please let me know if you’re interested in partaking in the chat, or if you’d like to recommend a literary fiction book for a future month.
I think it should be easy enough to keep everything in Substack’s chat feature, but I also want to be able to easily contact you all if the feature isn’t as robust as I’m hoping it is.
That’s all for now! Looking forward to connecting with you soon!
A relaxed book club, great concept. I have read All Fours. Fantastic free ranging narrative. Kept going out on a limb and pulling me along, which I am an enormous fan of.
Hey, I'd like to do this. I have a super overwhelming PhD load so I might need to flake out for the first few months but I want to stay in the loop and I'm excited for the Miranda July.
