Several weeks ago, I started composing a post to give a sort of update on all of the events I have going on in September and October, and also to share some insights and other things I’ve been thinking about recently, but I ran out of time I got overwhelmed thinking about all of the stuff I have going on. Even though it’s all good things, I feel stressed out, so I just abandoned the post and decided I would come back to it later when I had more time. I only really get to write while my daughter is sleeping and recently I’ve just been chilling and watching Grey’s Anatomy. Zoning out. You know how it goes.
It’s been six months since my house became uninhabitable due to construction issues. I’m still living with my parents and it’s pretty uncomfortable, and also just keep getting sick with various issues in the past few weeks. But there are a lot of exciting things coming up and I want to share them with you and I definitely hope to see you at some or all of them if possible. I’ll try to finish that other post at some point soon.
Tonight I’m reading alongside Justin Ryan Fyfe and James Milanese for Moonstone Arts. Show starts at 7pm at Fergie’s Pub, with an open mic to follow!
The official re-launch of American Mary takes place this Saturday, September 14 at Philadelphia Small Works Gallery. Tickets are available here for $5 each, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Show starts promptly at 7pm! This event will feature a special live performance featuring myself and six other poets (Amy Saul-Zerby, Aaron Gadbury, Heather Bowlan, Julia Gwiazdowski, Peter Webb, and William Hazard) inspired by an experimental reading of iduna by kari edwards that I participated in over ten years ago in San Francisco organized by Tom Commita. The performance will be like a sound bath, with simultaneous voices reading through a chapter of American Mary. It’s guaranteed to be a unique experience and you shouldn’t miss it. You can also download a free PDF of American Mary here, but it would dope to see you in person and celebrate!
Then this Sunday, September 15, I’ll be in Brooklyn, New York City (baby) reading for Discount Guillotine at Polly’s Cafe, alongside Kate Cavanaugh, India Rose Timpani, Ái Vy Luu, and Duncan Malashock.
Then on Wednesday, September 18 I’ll be back in Philly reading at The Den in La Chinesca for Poet’s Row alongside Christian Bufo, Olga Mikolaivna, Ryan Eckes, and Myene Yanu. Come get some street dogs and hang!
And then on Saturday, September 21 I’ll be doing a super secret house show in South Philly hosted by Maya Cordero of Discount Guillotine and reading with Maya Cordero, P.E. Garcia, Catch Breath, Amy Saul-Zerby, and China Rain. Should be bomb. Maya says “DM for the address if ur hot & fun.”
And that’s it for September! There is plenty more to come in October, but I’ll leave it there for now. And I haven’t forgotten about that post I started, maybe I’ll finish it on the train ride to NYC this Sunday!
